National Day of Prayer: A Factual Look At Congress And American History

The National Day of Prayer was not established by President George W. Bush, contrary to what Michael Stone of the Portland Progressive Examiner wrote on April 15, 2010:
The National Day of Prayer service was started by George W. Bush. It was an openly evangelical Christian affair, and was highly inappropriate for an official White House function. It was offensive to all non Christians. Christians must learn that not everyone subscribes to their silly superstition. Their superstition has no business being privileged or even recognized by the federal government.
Author's Commentary: Thank you, Michael Stone, for enlightening all of us about the "silly superstition" called Christianity. In fact, thank you, Michael Stone, for enlightening us about your personal beliefs, and for sharing your completely biased, and obviously liberal, thoughts with conservative Americans who don't happen to agree with you. God exists, Michael Stone, and your beliefs don't change the facts about God, Christianity, and the Bible.

Here are a few historical facts about National Prayer in America: the first day of National Prayer in America took place in 1775 due to a declaration of the Continental Congress. President George Washington declared a day of Public Thanksgiving and Prayer on February 19, 1795. The National Day of Prayer, as recognized by Christians today, was a bill unanimously passed by Congress on April 17, 1952, and signed by President Harry Truman. The decision to have the National Day of Prayer on the first Thursday in May was made in 1988. {2}

On April 14, 2010, Wisconsin Judge Barbara Crabb decided that The National Day of Prayer is not constitutional. {1}

"The lawsuit against the National Day of Prayer was brought in Wisconsin by a group of atheists and agnostics called the Freedom From Religion Foundation, which argued that it violated the separation of church and state." {1}

Author's Commentary: Congress started the National Day of Prayer approximately 58 years ago. The atheist, secular humanist Freedom from Religion Foundation, co-founded by atheist and co-president Dan Barker, was the moving force behind Judge Barbara Crabb's decision. *See My Related Posts below
*See above quotation.

President Barack Hussein Obama, in spite of his persistent, yet highly questionable, insistence that he is a Christian, will not be holding the National Day of Prayer service at the White House today. What else is there to expect from President Barack Hussein Obama's self-proclaimed Christian faith? President Barack Obama walked out of the National Prayer Breakfast right before Christian quarterback Tim Tebow said his prayer. *See My Related Posts below.

I can't help but wonder if President Barack Hussein Obama would have canceled the National Day of Prayer service at the White House if the prayers to be recited were Muslim prayers. You think?

Atheist Reader's Dan Barker Comments Rejected by Conservative Christian/Political Blogger

This post is dedicated to Atheist Jeremy, who tried to leave 2 negative comments on one of my Dan Barker posts this morning (Christian Minister Dan Barker Became Atheist Due To Reading Secular Books).

Jeremy, I screen comments because I value my CONSERVATIVE WORDSMITH.COM website. I think it is important to publish comments that are reasonable, even if they are not in agreement with what I have written. However, some people have hidden agendas whose sole purpose is to try to convert believers into nonbelievers, i.e., atheists.

Anyone who tries to post a comment on my site with the intent of taking believers away from the Lord will not see their comment published on CONSERVATIVE WORDSMITH.COM.

Also, comments that are hostile, with malicious intent, will equally not be published.

Jeremy, you stated in one of your comments that the Bible should be read from cover to cover, although you didn't mean that from a Christian perspective. I would like to pose a question to you, and that is this: Have you ever read the Bible from cover to cover? If not, I would suggest that you stop believing and hanging on every word Dan Barker and Annie say, and instead use your own mind to discern the truth about the Bible and about God.

Jeremy, if you wish to write a comment that does not bash Christians, the Bible, or Christianity, but rather simply express your thoughts about atheism, and why you are an atheist, then I will consider the publication of such a comment, although there are still no guarantees. That is one of the advantages of having one's own site, and I intend to use that option in order to keep my site free from extreme negativity of the wrong kind.

Christian Minister Dan Barker Became Atheist Due To Reading Secular Books

Choose your reading material carefully. Look what happened to the atheist, secular humanist Freedom From Religion Foundation's co-president Dan Barker.

"He received a degree in Religion from Azusa Pacific University and was ordained to the ministry by the Standard Community Church, California, in 1975." 1

"Dan maintained a touring musical ministry for 17 years, including eight years of full-time, cross-country evangelism." 1

"Following five years of reading, Dan gradually outgrew his religious beliefs. "If I had limited myself to Christian authors, I'd still be a Christian today," Dan says. 'I just lost faith in faith.' He announced his atheism publicly in January, 1984." 1

"Dan was PR Director of the Freedom From Religion Foundation from 1987 to 2004. He was elected co-president of the Foundation with Annie Laurie Gaylor in 2004. He is a contributing editor of Freethought Today and is involved with the Foundation's state/church lawsuits." 1

Freedom From Religion Foundation's Dan Barker Speaks Out Against Nativity Scenes

The Freedom From Religion Foundation is at it again. Take a look at this Fox News video featuring Dan Barker.Militant Atheists Vs. Christmas - Click this link to view a Fox News video featuring Dan Barker from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Evidently Mr. Barker has a serious problem with nativity scenes.

If you recall, I recently wrote about the Rancho Cucamonga, California Imagine No Religion billboard fiasco. That billboard, which has since been removed due to the pressure of angry residents of Rancho Cucamonga, was put up by the same atheist, secular humanist Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Citizens of Rancho Cucamonga, CA Now Free To Imagine Religion, Imagine No Religion Billboard Removed

Yesterday I wrote about the Imagine No Religion billboard put up in Rancho Cucamonga, California by the atheist, secular humanist Freedom From Religion Foundation (the co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation is atheist Dan Barker). Guess what? The Imagine No Religion billboard been removed.

"Sign company General Outdoor removed the sign by the Freedom From Religion Foundation on Thursday after it received a request by Rancho Cucamonga to do so. According to Redevelopment Director Linda Daniels, City Hall had received 90 calls of complaint since Wednesday. "'We contacted the sign company and asked if there was a way to get it removed,'" Daniels said. 1

"The foundation's co-president, Annie Laurie Gaylor, said the billboard is meant to encourage a debate on religion by using the John Lennon-inspired message. Gaylor was shocked over the city's role in the billboard's demise. "'The city has no business suggesting our billboard be censored," Gaylor said. "They're not allowed to interfere over religious controversy.'" 1

It is good to see the good citizens of Rancho Cucamonga, California standing up for their rights to not be bombarded with atheistic billboards put up in their town without their consent. Quoting the Freedom From Religion Foundations's co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor (see quote above), "They're not allowed to interfere over religious controversy." Wow! She states that non-atheists are not allowed to interfere over religious controversy, however the conservative truth is this: atheists are not only allowed to interfere, but to also practice mind control over an entire town! Now there's a double standard for you!
